Experience the adventure of "WALKING WILD : Whatcom County, Washington."

Journey up five trails in an incredible land of snow-covered volcanoes, high mountain meadows, deep pine forests, crystal lakes and sparkling waterfall. The wilderness through which the trails wind supports a marvelous array of life from vivid blossoms to tremulous deer and defiant ptarmigans. This amazing, yet accessible wilderness lies just south of the Canadian border in Washington's western Cascades.

Hannagan Pass & Peak: The pass can be a gateway to the National Park, but it stands alone as a hardy day hike or leisurely overnight trip that can lead to the top of Hannagan Peak. This trail combines simple joys, like good eating in season, with vistas that reveal the diversity of Whatcom County's backcountry.

Skyline Divide: A popular walk, with picture postcard vistas and a classic view of Mt. Baker. The trail can also offer hidden surprises for patient quiet walkers who take the time to wait and watch away from the human herd. The slopes here are home to many creatures

The peak of Peak 5658



Peak 5658: Delicious solitude can be found on the way to the peak with no name. It starts on a well traveled route, then turns away as it climbs slopes of fragile beauty to reach a panorama that reaches from ocean to boarder at its somewhat challenging finish

Goldrun Pass: An invigorating trail, once used by the goldminers, that moves from forests to wildflowers and meadows before reaching its razor sharp ridgeline that offers a 360 view of surrounding peaks

Coleman Glacier/Mt. Baker



Coleman Glacier: A short route that takes us up over and through creeks as it rises up the slopes of Mount Baker. This walk ends at the edge of the glacier's fragmented crevasses below jagged slopes sculpted by eons of wind, rain, sun and snow.

Walking Wild : Whatcom County, Washington trails can be reached from the Mount Baker Highway (State Route 542) in northwest Washington. They are approximately two hours from Seattle and one hour from Vancouver, British Colombia. From I-5, drive east from Exit 255 (Sunset Drive/Mt Baker Highway) in Bellingham.
